Maranges 2023
The Maranges appellation, the southernmost appellation of the Côte de Beaune, comprises 180 hectares of vineyards, over 90% of which are planted with Pinot Noir. Adjacent to Santenay, it bears a resemblance to that appellation, although there are differences in terroir. It even shares some highly regarded crus.
Situation géographique et terroir
The Maranges appellation, the last appellation on the Côte de Beaune, is located between the Côte de Beaune and the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise. Its 180-hectare vineyard is planted predominantly—more than 90%—with Pinot Noir. Neighboring Santenay, it is similar to Santenay, even though there are differences in terroir. It even shares some highly regarded crus. With clay as the dominant soil type, Pinot Noir from Maranges is characterized by a chewy texture and powerful tannins.
Vinification
The grapes are sorted, de-stemmed and then gently conveyed to the vat on a conveyor belt, without pumping. Before fermentation, we proceed to a cold maceration at 10°C for 4 to 5 days. Vatting lasts between 18 and 20 days, during which we punch down the cap daily. The wine is then put into barrels and the malolactic fermentation is carried out in full.
