Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 - Cuvée François de Salins - Hospices de Beaune
The name de Salins is naturally associated with Guigone, co-founder of the Hospices de Beaune. However, she had several descendants who were also benefactors of the institution, including François de Salins. A priest and Canon of the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame de Beaune, he donated his vineyards of Savigny and Aloxe to the Hôtel-Dieu in 1745.
Situation géographique et terroir
Here, the name Salins does not refer directly to Guigogne de Salins, co-founder of the Hospices, but rather to one of his descendants, François de Salins. A former priest and Canon of the Collegiate Church of Notre Dame de Beaune, he donated his plots of land in Savigny and Aloxe to the Hôtel-Dieu in 1745. The vines at the heart of the historic Charlemagne vineyard, most of which were planted in 1944, face south and south-west.
Corton Charlemagne has the distinction of being the highest altitude Grand Cru in Burgundy. Halfway between Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses in the ‘Le Charlemagne’ climat, the vines face South/South-West on marl soils rich in clay.
Vinification
Traditional in oak barrels, fermentation malolactic at 100%
