Description

Situated above the village of Flagey-Echezeaux on the plain, this vineyard lies between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits. It faces east. The Echezeaux cut across the entire hillside between Clos de Vougeot and the Premiers Crus of Vosne-Romanée. They offer more varied soils (generally Bajocian marl and stony subsoil). Depending on the Climats, they range in altitude from 230 to just over 300 metres (13% slope at mid-slope). Here, in the upper part, the soils are deep (70 to 80 centimetres). Pebbles, red silt, yellowish marl, etc. make up a fairly complex mosaic.

Vinification

Fermentation

Immediately after harvesting, the grapes are pressed as whole bunches in a pneumatic press, followed by static settling of the juice for 24 hours at 12°C. The must is then racked directly into barrels, where it undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, as well as ageing.

JamesSuckling.com
93/100 | juil. 2025

With the coolness that was the best feature of this vintage, here’s an impressively structured wine with ample, moderately dry tannins on the compact, medium-bodied palate. Very long, wet-earth and positively dry, grainy finish. Should gain with a few years of additional bottle maturation. Drinkable now, but best from 2027.

A luxurious splurge of black cherry, wild raspberry, espresso and pipe tobacco with a tight, graphite minerality and finely knitted tannins. Grandiose and utterly delicious!
