Description

This vineyard is situated at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres. The vines grow on the slopes of the valleys incising the Jurassic limestone plateaux to the west of the Côte-de-Nuits. The composition of the soil is identical to that of the Côte-de-Nuits, but the surface formations are very thin, or even non-existent. The clay-limestone soils result from the alteration of the limestone and marl of the substratum.

Vinification

Fermentation

The grapes are sorted, de-stemmed and carefully transferred to the vat on a conveyor belt. Before fermentation, we carry out a cold maceration at 10°C for 4 to 5 days. Vatting lasts between 18 and 20 days, during which time we punch down the cap or pump over the skins, monitored by daily tastings. The press juice and free-run juice are blended in stainless steel vats and lightly settled before being matured in vats and barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place (the wine is then placed in vats and put into barrels, before undergoing full malolactic fermentation).

Elevage10 months in stainless steel vats and French oak barrels.
Fûts

Light blond toast, 20% new barrels.

David Lawrason This is a bright, fresh and charming pinot noir, but it also packs enough structure and balance to age well for five years. The nose is nicely lifted and fragrant with red rose, red cherry, cranberry, ample spice and forest floor. It is mid-weight, slim and well balanced with some roundness and flesh, but based on firm acidity. Tannins are balanced; the length is very good to excellent. Textbook. Tasted April 2025 Michael Godel The buyers at VINTAGES have by now figured out that the Hautes-Côtes in Bourgogne is the place to find today’s best values, both in the vineyards of Beaune and also Nuits. Another proper example comes from Domaine Vigne au Roy in Bévy looking out across the abbey of Saint-Vivant de Vergy towards Chambolle-Musigny and Vougeot. More than just fruit here but a firmness and grip that speaks to centuries of Bourgogne pinot noir. Solid construct, capable of aging a few to several years. Drink 2026-2029. Tasted April 2025.

Cool and floral with ripe cranberry fruit, this combines good depth with a zesty freshness on the sleek medium-bodied palate. Good juiciness on the mid-palate, then slightly rustic and edgy on the finish. Definitely needs a bit of bottle age. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.
